A performance of commissioned music in an abandoned water tank. Recorded at the Tank Center for Sonic Arts in Rangely, Colorado on October 17, 2023.
"The Tank" is a repurposed railroad water tank that was discovered to have unique sonic properties that enhance the quality and duration of internal reverberations. The proprietors rent the venue to musicians and provide the option of a professional recording engineer and audio equipment matched to the sonic quality of the sound.

Hoover Dam Spillway Overflow 1983
Переглядів 1,7 млн7 років тому
I've been watching information the past few years of how Lake Mead's water storage is slowly dropping to critically low levels. This is interesting to me because I visited the Hoover Dam in June of 1983 when the lake was full enough to send water over the spillways (the first and only time this has happened, other than for testing after construction). I dug out my old movies and slides of the h...

Lived in Vegas for 36 years, moved there at the age of 8 in 1978. My parents would take us out to the dam for the tour down inside Hoover. Still have pictures of those trips and man was it an awesome site. 🙂👍

Did anyone think the water levels of the Hoover Dam in 1983 looked scary like the water could overflow at any time of the day and potential take people or vehicles with it? Or worst, potentially cause the dam do break while the spillways would get overwhelmed trying to release more water out than it can handle?

When I moved to Vegas in May of 97 the only way into Nevada the way we came in was over the dam. We stopped our moving truck on the hill overlooking the dam and walked down to check it out. It was spilling over into the overflow tunnels but not nearly at that rate. Great video...

I BOUGHT THIS ALBUM BACK IN 1974 - MAYBE LATE SPRING, CANNOT RECALL. THIS WAS THE YEAR THAT I DID A 180 FROM THE STUDY OF MEDICINE, TO THE STUDY OF THE PIPE ORGAN, AND IT'S MUSIC. SADLY, IN MY MOVE, WITH MY LATE WIFE FROM ARIZONA, TO TEXAS, THIS MAGNIFICENT ALBUM WAS LOST. BUT LO AND BEHOLD, HERE IT IS - REMASTERED. I AM GRATEFUL TO WHOMEVER PUT THIS ONTO UA-cam. YOU HAVE BRIGHTENED MY LIFE. I WORK AS A PROFESSIONAL ORGANIST AND CHURCH MUSICIAN AT A NICE-SIZED LUTHERAN CHURCH IN TEXAS, AND THE MUSIC OF BACH IS A HUGE PART OF MY BREAD AND BUTTER. MANY THANKS AGAIN FOR THIS UA-cam!!! MOST SINCERELY, DR JOSE, DSM.

I was just at Hoover Dam about a week ago. One big change is the Memorial Bypass Bridge for US-93 built in 2005, which routes traffic away from the dam and eases congestion. The water level was pretty low.

    E. Power Biggs was a master of appropriate registrations, especially WRT Bach's fugues. There is an, IMO unfortunate, tendency in many modern performances of his fugues to start loud, stay loud and finish louder, so that by the time the piece is done, the listener is exhausted by monotonous drumming and been deprived of the wonderful nuances that Bach works in after all the voices have been introduced. If one listens to the way Biggs plays the fugues, the exposition comes in firmly, but not usually with any full-length reeds, which are saved until the build up in the end. After the strong- but not blasting- exposition, he treats us to the delights of Bach's genius woven into the wonderous sound of the master pipe voicer's craft. Only as Bach ties a glorious knot on the package at the end, does Biggs really lay it on loud. All this makes for a holy-trinity; music composed by a genius, played on a organ that is the pinnacle of the builder's craft and interpreted by a performer who really understands what he is playing.

June 1983. That's very close to the time I escaped from living in Las Vegas for three years. IIRC, Lake Mead was close to capacity for those years. At least, I don't recall of ever hearing about it being below level, like it is now (way low). In fact, in the time I was in Vegas, we had several bouts with street flooding. If I ever return to that horrible place, it will be too soon. But, Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam were a few of the more pleasant aspects of the time I lived there. Thank you very much for sharing!

I have sent this comment before but will repeat to edify fellow Bach listeners: This album has been released on an excellently mastered CD. Available from the dreaded Amazon - on the Berlin label. At the time I found it (pre-Plandemic) the price was $9.99 not including S&H. Very enjoyable.

So, what was going on, upstream? Glen Canyon probably wasn't ready, yet; and what about the other Reservoirs, upriver? No "Temporary" Reservoirs, either, to "hold back" some of the water, and release it, slowly. Talk about a "train wreck", waiting to happen!

I toured the damn with my parents in the summer of 1999. Last time it was actually full. While it wasn't a raging river over the spillways like this, it was definitely a steady stream over them. I have pictures of it buried in my boxes of non digital photos.
